Since 2018 when they were first launched, Kiama Drink Fountains have proven a popular choice for parks, schools, and open space projects. The features, strength and quality of this fountain place it as a high-end product, while the cost of the fountain reflects a mid-range offering. A redesign of the fountain was necessary to ensure the best possible installation result – every time.
The Challenge
The complete Kiama Fountain came with everything needed to install the unit in-situ and provide a drink fountain that was built-in to its landscape. However, from observing completed municipal projects that included the installation of the Kiama Drink Fountain over time, it was obvious that installation posed a challenge for contactors that were unfamiliar with the product. And while installation instructions were readily available (shipped with the product or available online), it was generally the contractor that missed receiving them. Assumptions and therefore mistakes were made.
The Solution
Our clever engineers set about designing a new rag bolt that made the process of sub-surface installation more obvious. The result was the adoption of an “Installation Cassette” combining all sub-surface drink fountain components, including the rag bolt and drainage pit. Installation is now as simple as aligning the top of the cassette with the finished ground level (FGL). So, whether the cassette is delivered ahead of the fountain or not, the sub-surface preparation cannot be mistaken.
As an added benefit of the redesign, the stop valve usually required in the project can be located inside the drainage pit if preferred. Access to the stop valve is behind the removable stainless grate.
